Welcome to Ojo Rojo, a contemporary Mexican street food inspired restaurant located in the popular Triangle area of Bournemouth. Ojo Rojo (pronounced ‘Ock-o Rock-o’) literally translated means ‘Red Eye’. Unmissable from the outside with its colourful blue painted wall mural, most of the interior has been designed using recycled and salvaged materials intended to create an eating place that is interesting, ergonomic and sustainable. Unique in its decor, an abundance of rescued and renovated wood provides the tables and chairs and a fascinating tree installation reusing copper wire is the centrepiece of this exciting venue.
The restaurant is set over two floors with a variety of booths, tables and flexible seating for couples and groups. The ground floor ‘Gallery’ houses the vibrant Mezcaleria bar area and lends itself to lively and informal eating. Upstairs you’ll find the incredible ‘Canopy’ with a semi-open kitchen and a more traditional, intimate dining experience.
Inspired by the traditions and flavours of Mexico, the dishes are re-imagined to deliver street-style food with a unique Rojo twist. A variety of dietary needs are also catered for to create a menu that can be enjoyed by those wishing to eat gluten free, vegan or dairy free. The options are clearly marked on the menu and the friendly and knowledgeable staff are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. In this social and interactive form of dining, food is not defined as starters and mains, instead dishes are ordered course by course, tapas style, and arrive at your table freshly prepared when ready. It’s all about sharing!
Much of the menu is gluten free, you will be spoilt for choice. First of all there is a Specials Board offering burritos, quesadillas, soups and more. Or if fish is your thing try the Fish Platter or Fish Baja, crab or prawns. Meat dishes include chicken, pork, ribs and albondigas. There are cheese dishes, nachos, ribs, ensalada Roja, patatas Rojo, to name but a few, and a choice of dips Rojo style. Opening Hours
We open at 17:30 on a Monday for dinner service and midday Tuesday to Sunday.
Our kitchen closes between 15:30-17:30 to set up for dinner service but the bar is open our bar staff love the company!
Even when our full menu stops on Friday and Saturday at 10:30pm, our late night tacos are available until midnight!
