The College Arms is a delightful country pub located in the historic market town of Hertford very close to the Hertford Heath Nature Reserve. It has recently undergone a major refurbishment to provide a charming interior of skilfully reclaimed traditional features together with contemporary furnishings and decor. Rich wooden flooring, timbered bar, sumptuous velvet and leather furniture, cosy log burners and mellow lighting create a wonderfully warm and relaxing atmosphere. The light and airy Garden Room has been redesigned to provide an elegant and stylish dining space with eye-catching chandeliers bedecked with hanging greenery – an unusual and intriguing talking point! To the rear is an attractive paved patio area and spacious lawned beer garden, the perfect tranquil spot to dine al fresco or simply enjoy a drink during the warmer months. Dogs are welcome too! There is also a heated stretch tent that can be enjoyed all year round.

As well as a superb location offering much to explore for locals and visitors alike, the venue has built a reputation for its excellent food and service. The menu provides mainly British pub classics with a twist using only premium quality fresh seasonal produce. Select from appetising starters, delicious main courses, good range of sides, and irresistible desserts. A Children’s Menu is also provided. Snacks and light bites are available and a specials board has monthly changing dishes. Tasty breakfasts are served at the weekends and The College Arms traditional Sunday roast lunch is not to be missed! In addition, the extensive drinks list includes real ales and craft beers, expertly selected wines and fantastic cocktails.

The team are proud to be at the heart of the community and are also passionate about catering for dietary requirements. An easy-to-use comprehensive allergen chart provides information for every menu item. A separate dedicated fryer is used for non-gluten items thus eliminating the risk of cross-contamination. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are more than happy to answer questions regarding food preparation and ingredients and to advise on menu choice.

The Prince George

The Prince George occupies a corner position on St Albans Road in the popular town of Watford. Its origins date from c.1838 and in 1928 the pub was rebuilt and extended in mock Tudor style. Although located in a busy area the attractive red brick building has retained country inn appeal with its sloping roofs, tall chimneys and leaded windows. The traditional interior is full of character with wooden flooring, feature bar, interesting decor and mellow lighting which creates a cosy and relaxed atmosphere. It is informally separated into bar, lounge and dining areas with plenty of room to relax. Outside there is a partly covered paved terrace area, the perfect spot to enjoy a drink in the warmer months. Dogs are welcome too! Parking is available at the rear of the pub.

Family-run by the Burrows family and their enthusiastic team, Head Chef Mark Burrows has created a menu offering delicious home cooked classic dishes with a modern twist often with influences of Durban, South Africa, the family’s native city. Fresh locally sourced quality produce is used whenever possible. Choose from tasty Starters & Nibbles, delicious Mains, Speciality Burgers, selection of Side Dishes and irresistible Desserts. Not to be missed is the Sunday Lunch Menu which is innovative and exciting and is sure to tempt you. A Kids’ Menu is also available.

The Horse & Chains is a popular family-run pub and restaurant located in the large town of Bushey. This charming country pub occupies a lovely location alongside a leafy village green in the delightful village of Watford Heath. With origins dating back to the 17th century, the premises was first granted a licence in 1819 and named The Royal Oak. During 2018 it was acquired by experienced restaurateurs Lee and Sue Colbert who, together with their enthusiastic team, have extended and skilfully renovated the pub into a contemporary venue yet retaining all the character and charm of its former days. Cosy and welcoming on the inside, there is also ample seating on one side, shaded by umbrellas, the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a drink in the warmer months. A large heated tent is also provided for rainy or colder days. Parking is available in front or at the tennis courts behind the pub.

Under the auspices of award-winning head chef Michael Harman, the menus offer delicious home cooked meals lovingly prepared using fresh local produce whenever possible. Choose from tasty Starters & Nibbles, delicious Mains, Royal Oak Burgers, selection of Side Dishes and irresistible Desserts. A Kids’ Menu is also available.

The Golden Fleece Pub and Dining Rooms is a beautiful country pub in the heart of the picturesque village of Braughing in stunning Hertfordshire The goal at The Golden Fleece is to exceed their customer expectations, for their valued customers to be welcomed by the friendly, well trained staff and to experience a wide variety of exceptional food and drink.

Jess has a flair for cooking and regularly updating the menus. As the head chef, she runs the kitchen team ensuring the consistently high quality of freshly prepared dishes. The Menus are colourful, inventive and creative and the wide range of Gluten Free, Vegan and Vegetarian dishes are outstanding! There is so much choice it really is impressive and exceptional! Nothing is too much trouble and the lovely staff here that have been with Jess and Pete for years are so knowledgable about people’s dietary needs they will help advise you on menu choices and you will be so impressed and so well catered for! The team here are passionate about delivering sensational food and delivering a first class service.

Pete manages the front of house and personally selects a wide variety of local ales and beers alongside the well-loved Adams Southwold bitter. The wines are hand-picked to compliment the menus and there is a fantastic array of spirits.

The Orange Tree

The Orange Tree is the areas most exciting country pub and restaurant

Just a ten minute walk from the centre of the village and set in beautiful Hertfordshire countryside with large gardens and two ample car parks, we offer a warm welcome and relaxed dining.

Here at The Orange Tree it’s the ever-changing Specials Board which is the main attraction. Our chefs are asked to source and prepare an exciting variety of freshly made dishes using local produce wherever possible.

Our Standard Menu which guarantees that the most popular dishes such as our Battered Fish of the Day (Gluten Free), Homemade Pie of the Day and of course The Orange Tree Burger are always available. In other words dishes which are so popular we daren’t take them off!

Sundays are extra special here with three Roasts all cooked on the day with a choice of – for example – Topside of Suffolk Beef, Slow Cooked Shoulder of Hertfordshire Lamb or Essex Pork with Crackling, Chicken or Venison. Plenty to please everyone but feel free to ask what this Sunday’s choices are when booking. Roasts include Duck Fat Roasties, Giant Yorkshire Pud, Vegetables and Rich Reduction Gravy – all cooked on the day.
