The Maypole reopened in 2022 with new owners and management and today offers a well stocked bar and relaxing lounge, separate dining room with beamed ceiling and cosy log burner, and contemporary en-suite accommodation with every facility. In addition there is a small patio to the rear, the perfect spot to relax with a drink during the warmer months.

Start the day with a choice of tasty breakfast options including a full English breakfast. Food is served throughout the day from 12 noon and the menus offer appetising Starters, favourite Mains (including meat, poultry, fish & seafood, pies, lasagne), succulent Steaks, Vegetarian dishes, various Sides and delicious Cold Platters & Cheeses selection. A Specials Board is also available daily. To round off, why not indulge in an irresistible homemade pudding or tempting dessert – there is something for everyone to enjoy. The menus also cater for those with special dietary needs, including gluten free, and use colour coded allergen icons to clearly identify the contents of each food item. Over the years the licensed café has gained widespread renown as one of the finest fish restaurants in the area. Only responsibly sourced premium quality fresh fish and seafood is used, lovingly prepared and carefully presented to your table. The impressive menu offers an extensive range of fish and seafood dishes – choose from appetising Nibbles & Snacks, Starters (Whitby crab bisque, prawn cocktail, paté, kippers, mussels, calamari, chilled seafood taster…. to mention but a few!), sharing platters and Lindisfarne Oysters. Main meals offer cod and haddock plus speciality fish and seafood such as hake, lemon sole, halibut, lobster, scampi, salmon … and much more. Dishes can be served with delicious golden chips or with choice of fresh vegetables and signature homemade sauces. To the front is an attractive outside eating area with comfortable seating and umbrellas, the ideal spot to relax and enjoy a coffee accompanied with its own fun miniature whisk in place of a conventional teaspoon! The funky interior designed in light wood and deep blue is striking in its simplicity and creates a wonderfully light and airy feel.

The menus offer an impressive selection of food and drink. The team at Whisk are committed to creating their own dishes combining healthy and nutritious ingredients with wonderful flavours. Those with special dietary requirements are very well catered for including gluten free (GF), vegetarian (V) and vegan (VE) and these options are clearly marked on the menu. Gluten free brunch choices include Bircher Muesli, a delicious blend of oats, fresh fruit and berries, coconut yoghurt & homemade maple granola. Among hot options are Hash Brown Benedict (hash browns, 2 poached eggs, Hollandaise sauce, choice of toppings), and Allotment Hash & Smash with sautéed wild mushrooms, roasted beetroot & wilted spinach, smashed avocado, cherry tomato salsa, hash browns. The upstairs Tea Rooms are homely, welcoming and full of character having retained original Victorian fittings such as leaded fireplaces.
