The Balcony Cafe is our award winning and highly recommended cafe.

We are a hidden gem in the Glasgow restaurant sector and aim to impress with world-class food delivered with a personal touch. On the upper level of the Glasgow Climbing Centre and bathed in beautiful light filtered through a full height stained glass window is the Balcony Cafe.

Here our ambitious chefs create fresh and memorable dishes that traverse the globe including traditional Scottish ingredients.

If you’ve caught our head chef Liam’s regular slot on STV’s Riverside Show then you’ll know that at the Balcony Cafe you can expect palate-expanding “flavour bombs”.

Dietary Requirements..

At the Balcony Cafe we take pride in catering for everyone, Coeliacs & vegetarians will be delighted with our menu. Our chefs utilise the very best vegetarian ingredients such as butternut squash, beetroot, tofu, and goat’s cheese to create an array of ethical delights and vegans will find sandwiches, soups and main meals all created without the use of animal products. Coeliacs can choose to have their sandwiches on Genius gluten free bread, and anyone with allergies can talk to our creative staff about catering for their specific needs.

Overlooking the main hall, it is an ideal place to eat, drink and meet friends.

A sublime and wonderful food adventure awaits you at Dakhin, the UK’s first and only Authentic South Indian restaurant in Scotland serving 100% entirely Gluten Free food. Dakhin is also 100% Nut Free. Located in Glasgow’s popular Merchant City district, this first floor venue is spacious, light and airy with floor to ceiling windows. Exposed brick, slatted wooden ceiling with hanging greenery, mellow lighting, attractive tiling and illuminated bar combine to create a contemporary and relaxed feel in which to enjoy the South Indian cuisine for which Dakhin is deservedly acclaimed. The open plan kitchen design enables diners to watch the chefs in action while they prepare their speciality dishes and breads, adding to the whole dining experience.

The impressive menu offers an amazing selection of authentic dishes reflecting the food and culture of India’s southern region. Naturally Gluten Free rice and gram flour is used and the combination of rice, coconut, lentils and regional spices produce dishes which are fragrant, subtle and yet spicy giving South Indian food a unique and distinctive taste. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are most attentive and are happy to advise on any aspect of the food and its preparation.

Dakhin’s unique menu of chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetarian dishes cannot fail to tempt the discerning diner. Starters include the famous Dosa (an elongated wafer-thin crepe with a choice of succulent savoury fillings), Idli Wada (steamed savoury rice cakes or fritters soaked in Sambhar and served with coconut chutney) and, as a GF alternative to naan, speciality breads such as Uluva Chilla, Appam and Siru Uttapam. There are some excellent Vegan delicacies too.

Lunch and main courses offer a vast range of dishes, such as the spicy Masa Kondhapur (Lamb with sauce of onion, coconut and crushed red chillies), or the subtle Chemeen Kari (King Prawns in a mild sauce of ginger, curry leaves and coconut cream), and Kozhi Ishtew (Chicken simmered in coconut milk and diced vegetables).

Dessert options include the rich and creamy Paal Payasam (Rice and sweetened milk flavoured with cardamom and cashew nuts) or Mulai Kulfi (Cardamom flavoured traditional Indian ice cream).

Whatever your preference, you are assured of a truly memorable dining experience at the Dakhin South Indian Kitchen.

All the food on their menu are prepared without using Gluten, nuts, peanuts, sesame, celery, lupin, molluscs and sulphites. Our standard operating procedure ensures that all the ingredients we use in our kitchen are always free from these allergens.

“Gluten-free heaven, unbelievable choice – even the breads! Fantastic food and service … just outstanding. An extremely unique and special venue the staff are amazing and so helpful at catering for your dietary needs with such care and consideration. It’s a gem in Glasgow and a must visit! We can’t recommend Dakhin South Indian Kitchen highly enough! Wow what a place! ” Gluten Free Dining.
